SNORKELLING IN A NATURAL POOL IN IBIZA
For an island that can become so heavily populated in the bustling summer months, Pou Des Lleó’s half hidden location is perfect and could easily be enjoyed throughout any hour of the day. We arrived by ebike to the russet red cliffs and from there we went past the beach restaurant and down towards the sheer glistening seawater. However, one ascent to the apex of the cliffs and we were mesmerised by the bands of horseshoe shaped inlets, each with a mixture of pebbly and sandy shores and small fishermens huts strewn across the coastline. From there we stumbled upon a set of steps cocooned by a hut, which plunged down towards another lustrous bay. With only a few people joining us on the vast expanse of beach, we soon nestled down by the hut, propped up an umbrella, settled a blanket down before lowering ourselves from the concrete slopes into the cool water.
Purifying posidonia, vibrant green and pink sea anemones and ornate wrasse beheld us as we snorkelled through the reefs, rocks and other curious sights below the depths. We were met with a pleasant surprise when we advanced around the corner and came across a natural swimming pool, bristling with life. This pristine environment surrounded by the gently lapping waves was an extraordinary find and as the steady hum of the sea sounded in our ears, we explored for what seemed like hours. We then made our way back upon our nook on the shore, the tender breeze making the ocean lie still before us. The various rockforms make for an especially eye-catching view and, of course, a brilliant spot for snorkelling.
For a place hidden, rarely busy and treasured by the locals; Pou Des Lleó makes for an idyllic location to visit, made easy by ebike.
